About Me

Hailed as a “fearless performer” with a “charming and animated” presence, Italian-American soprano Francesca Coverini is an up-and-coming face in the world of opera. She found her love for music at a young age, performing in local musicals, plays and concerts around her hometown of Naples, Florida. From musical theater to opera to jazz, Ms. Coverini finds joy in sharing her passion for music with audiences everywhere through authentic and compelling performances. She received her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of world-renowned soprano, Elizabeth Futral. She was a recipient of the Claire and Allan Jensen Scholarship Award, graduating with Summa Cum Laude in the spring of 2024. Prior to this, Ms. Coverini attended the Boston Conservatory at Berklee under the instruction of Dr. Marilyn Bulli, graduating in 2022 with high honors.

As a versatile performer, Francesca has taken the stage as an assortment of roles from the most endearing ingénues to the wittiest schemers. She opens her 24/25 season performing with the Miami Music Festival, making her role debut as Die Erste Dame in Mozart’s mystical opera, Die Zauberflöte. She was also featured in local recitals and concerts around the Miami Beach area. Ms. Coverini has joined the Opera Orlando for their season of “Destiny + Desire,” taking the stage in their mainstage productions; she will appear in the ensemble of Macbeth, Cendrillon, Beatrice & Benedict, Cavalleria Rusticana, and the holiday double bill Four Lost Santas/Amahl and the Night Visitors at The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Francesca will also be representing the Opera Orlando in special donor events around Central Florida such as the East Orlando Chamber of Commerce’s Bravatto Awards, the Orlando Museum of Art’s 100th Anniversary Gala, the Citrus Club’s Charity Classic for the Arts, and more!

In her 23/24 season, Francesca was praised for her heart-wrenching performance as Nora in the Peabody Opera Theatre’s production of Riders to the Sea by Ralph Vaughan Williams. She also appeared in two world-premiere operas, a staged adaptation of Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice, and in the ensemble of Strauss’ iconic party opera, Die Fledermaus. While studying at the Peabody Institute, Francesca made it her mission to bring music into her neighborhood. She prepared heartfelt recitals to perform in local libraries, retirement homes, hospitals, schools and churches in an effort to make music accessible to those who may not experience it otherwise. She focused on underrepresented voices and narratives in these performances, programming works that showcased composers who have been discriminated against for their gender, race, sexuality, etc.

Over the summer, Ms. Coverini joined Spotlight on Opera in Shreveport, Louisiana, making her role debuts of Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica, and the cover of Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica. She also performed numerous times around the greater Shreveport area as Goldie B. Locks in Spotlight’s touring children's opera, Goldie B. Locks and the Three Singing Bears. These performances were geared towards young children in the community who had never been exposed to opera before—a sweet and memorable experience for everyone involved.

In addition to her operatic engagements, Francesca has showcased her vocal versatility in concerts, recitals, and competitions. She has been recognized for her exceptional talent and technique in many vocal competitions, most recently being announced as one of five finalists in the Tampa Bay Symphony Jack Heller Young Artist Competition. Ms. Coverini will be performing selections from Werther and Little Women in January of 2025. In the spring she was one of eight finalists in the Sylvia Green Concerto Competition with her performance of Jake Heggie’s dramatic song cycle, At the Statue of Venus. She was praised for her “great diction,” “nice color changes,” and her ability to “make [the music] come off the page” by industry professionals Latonia Moore, Justina Lee, and Jason Mechavich. She has placed in other competitions such as NATS, CS Music, and BMP Top Teens.

In 2022, she had the honor of performing at the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a part of Adolphus Hailstork’s riveting concert work “Crispus Attucks.” This work told the story of Crispus Attucks, a sailor of mixed African and Indigenous ancestry who died when British soldiers fired two musket balls into his chest. His death, along with the death of four other men, started what we know today as the Boston Massacre. Other notable concert works include Howard Shore’s The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, W.A. Mozart’s Requiem in d minor, Anton Bruckner’s Mass in e minor, and Nobuo Uematsu’s Final Fantasy VII: REBIRTH World Tour to name a few. In September, Francesca will be joining the Opera Orlando, Orlando Sings, and the Orlando Philharmonic for their performance of the Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezín. They will tell the story of the musical rebellion in the concentration camp of Terezín during WWII. Rafael Schächter, an imprisoned conductor, and his choir of 150 inmates passed around a single score of music to learn this compelling work as a way to confront the Nazis and sing to them what they dare not say.

With her amiable personality, expressive storytelling abilities, and luscious timbre, Ms. Coverini stands out from other up-and-coming sopranos. She stands for increased diversity and open minds in the world of the arts, striving to bring forth new and progressive ideas through high quality musicality. As a passionate young artist, Francesca is committed to sharing what she loves most and expanding her mission of “music for all.”
